Incorporated in 1958, the Village of Hanover Park has grown from a small
bedroom community in Cook County to a thriving suburban town with a
population of 35,579, whose residential and commerical development has
spilled over into DuPage County as well. Although it is just five square
miles in size, Hanover Park is crisscrossed by four townships, seven
school districts, three park districts and two library districts.
Before its incorporation, Hanover Park was an "outcropping" of
Ontarioville, which pre-dated Hanover Park by nearly a full century. In
an unusual twist of history, however, it was Hanover Park that later
assimilated Ontarioville, officially incorporating the smaller community
into its boundaries in 1982.
Today, one of the most attractive aspects of living in Hanover Park
continues to be the affordability of homes for young families moving
into the community. The median age in Hanover Park is 28 and the average
family income is $49,916.
Homebuyers are able to choose from a wide range of housing, from raised
ranches and split levels, to condominiums, to townhomes, condominiums
and duplexes. The average 1997 sale price for a single family home was
$136,766, while condominium and townhome prices averaged out at $94,491.
Apartment rentals are available for an average cost of $562 per month.
Commuters taking the express train from the Hanover Park station can
reach Chicago in 45 minutes. Drive time to the Loop is 60 minutes, while
O'Hare airport is 35 minutes away and Midway Airport is a 60-minute
drive. The Elgin-O'Hare Expressway bisects Hanover Park and the
Northwest Tollway is a short four miles north, while the Interstate 290
extension is five miles east of the village.
This community of approximately 40,000 is located just 30 miles
northwest of Chicago. It is conveniently located 17 miles from O'Hare
International Airport and less than 45 minutes from downtown Chicago
(via the Metra West Line). This village's thriving economy has a variety
of industries providing employment, which include manufacturing, retail
trade, professional, scientific, management, administrative and waste
management services, and educational, health and social services. Some
of the companies within the region include big names like Fisher
Scientific, Canon and G.E. Transportation. Hanover Park's seven school
districts serving students grades K-12 are renowned for their dedication
to providing excellent education. The Hanover Park District also
maintains over 21 park sites that stretch more than 128 acres. Residents
can engage in numerous recreational activities by way of the parks'
outdoor tennis courts, racquetball courts, swimming pools, football
fields, recreation buildings, outdoor ice rinks, softball fields, soccer
fields, basketball courts and picnic areas. For outdoor enthusiasts
thousands of acres of forest preserves provide bird refuges, natural
wildlife areas, horseback and bike trails, boating, fishing, hiking, and
picnicking. One of the big annual highlights for Hanover Park residents
is the Harvest Fest, held on Labor Day weekend. The event's big-name
entertainment, carnival and plethora of food booths help to attract
40,000 visitors. Real estate options in Hanover Park consist of
single-family detached homes, estate properties, condominiums,
townhouses and land lots. Hanover Park is a village committed to serving
its residents in a safe, aesthetically alluring, developmentally
progressive and economically sound community.

theaters and semiprofessional sports arenas offer Hanover Park residents
an array of leisure and recreational opportunities. The Chicago metro
area also provides near endless opportunities to explore entertainment,
professional sports, museums, opera, art exhibits, symphony and theatre.
The Mallard Lake Forest Preserve is located on the south side of Hanover
Park and is part of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District. This
Forest Preserve encompasses a large portion of beautifully wooded areas
with plenty of opportunities to explore outdoor activities. Amenities
within the boundaries include a fishing pier, a shelter, a dog exercise
area and a bike path. Plenty of wildlife inhabits Mallard Lake including
meadowlarks, great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks and kestrels.
To the west of County Farm Road is the Hawk Hollow Forest Preserve,
which will soon be connected to the Mallard Lake Forest Preserve via a
bike path. Hawk Hollow is comprised of over 1,000 largely undeveloped
acres and offers spectacular views of the West Branch of the DuPage
River Valley. This meandering river flows through Hawk Hollow from north
to south. Over 500 plant species inhabit this Forest Preserve including
wild bergamot, prairie sunflowers, wild geranium and white, bur, red and
black oak trees. More than 130 animal species - several that are listed
as endangered or threatened - can also be found in Hawk Hollow.
